Reality-virtuality continuum
Reality-virtuality continuum
Today’s I learned about a concept, Reality-virtuality continuum. In today’s world, there are many technology that connect or induce you to virtual world. The latest wearable technology like VR headset and AR glasses is, off course one example of those. However, it can be said that we go back and forth between real and vitual world though more familiar technology like e-money. I learned the theoretical framework, called ‘Reality-vituality continuum’. This framework describes a continuous scale ranging between the completely virtual, a virtuality, and completely real, reality.[1]

Experiment
We did two experiments to experience the boundary area of reality and virtuality.
The rubber hand illusion
As the figure 2 shows, the tester put his hand on a desk besided rubbber hand. The tester make his one hand visible but the other unvisible. They feels that a fake rubber hand is their own when their real hand is hidden, and the rubber hand is stroked in sync with their hidden hand, creating the illusion of ownership over the rubber hand.

The phantom nose illusion
The Pinocchio Illusion is a sensory illusion where a person feels their nose is growing longer when the person touches their nose, confusing the brain’s perception of body position.
